Jessica’s Anterior Cervical Decompression Fusion Patient Story
Before meeting with Dr. Girardi I had tried absolutely everything; from acupuncture, PT, chiropractor, epidural, pain meds, etc and nothing was working.
As a usually very active person it was so mentally frustrating that I wasn’t able to do my regular daily workouts, hikes or other physical activity without nerve pain down my arm and a throbbing, burning sensation in my shoulder and neck.
I was so nervous to have the surgery, Dr Girardi was so reassuring and his calming demeanor helped make the decision that much easier. He told me I would wake up with no more pain, other than normal post surgical pain, and I didn’t believe him. Sure enough, he was right! The recovery was a lot, but each day, week and month I was stronger and reaching the milestones he assured me I’d reach.
My surgery was April 4, 2023; on August 20th, just 4 1/2 months after the major ACDF surgery I ran a 5 mile race! I never thought I’d be able to run again, let alone do a race that soon.
And I’ve only gotten stronger, faster and more able since.
I recently had a massage, for the first time in a very long time I had no specific area I needed work on, I had no pain for them to work through. I was just there for a regular, relaxing, therapeutic massage.
I owe so much to Dr Girardi, his entire practice, and HSS in general! I can’t say enough about my entire experience. I’m so glad I had the surgery and so grateful for team!
